Homes for our Troops Building a Home for Sandy Resident
Army Specialist Kevin Pannell, a veteran from Sandy, OR, served in Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division. In June 2004 SPC Pannell and his unit were conducting a routine foot patrol in central Baghdad when they were ambushed in an alleyway. During the scuffle, insurgents threw three grenades that exploded at SPC Pannell’s feet resulting in the amputation of both his legs. SPC Pannell spent a year and a half recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center.
SPC Pannell currently lives with his wife in an apartment that is not wheelchair accessible. SPC Pannell faces many daily struggles in his home like entering the bathroom because his wheelchair is too big to fit through the door. Homes for Our Troops, a national non-profit, is building a specially adapted home for SPC Pannell and his family to help him move forward on his recovery. But we need help! Homes for Our Troops is looking for donations of building supplies, professional labor, and volunteers.
