Sandy Music Fair & Feast, presented by Les Schwab Tire Center,
Begins Next Week!

Remember to mark your calendars for the Sandy Music Fair & Feast next week! Join us at the festival tents in downtown Sandy’s Centennial Plaza on the Corner of Pioneer Boulevard and Hoffman Avenue. Sandy Music Fair and Feast runs from July 7th to July 9th with events for all ages!
Enjoy the summer sun or reunite with friends and family while listening to some great music. In addition to beer, wine, live music and dancing, there will also be great food vendors and margaritas!
Thursday, July 7th is “Family Night” and free to all ages from 5 – 11:30 pm. Enjoy good food, cold beverages, giveaways, games, prizes and live music from the Anything Goes Band.
Friday, July 8th is the junior talent show from 2 to 4 pm. Bring your family to participate or watch all types of talent acts compete for the grand prize savings bond while enjoying cake and ice cream. Those 21 and over can enjoy our beer and wine garden, margarita booth, concessions and main stage entertainment with live music from Dirt Farm Cowboys and Crush from 6 pm – 12:30 am.
Saturday, July 9th come be the star during our open microphone session from 3 – 5 pm! Open to those 21 and over from 6 pm – 12:30 am, we will be serving margaritas and great food in addition to beer & wine while enjoying live music from Lock Stock & Barrel and Crush.

Come join us for the Sandy Music Fair & Feast in downtown Sandy’s Centennial Plaza on the Corner of Pioneer Boulevard and Hoffman Avenue! The festival runs from July 7th to July 9th with events for all ages.

New to the event this year is an opportunity for you to be the star. On Saturday, July 9th from 3 – 5 pm, the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting an “open mic” session.

The event is open for all to perform. Bring your instrument and / or your vocal talent and we will put you on stage! Time allotted will depend on the overall number of requests. Material must be family friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Bands Scheduled to Perform!

Join us for the Sandy Music Fair & Feast in downtown Sandy’s Centennial Plaza on the Corner of Pioneer Boulevard and Hoffman Avenue! The festival runs from July 7th to July 9th and showcases some very talented musicians, with music for all to enjoy, in the beer and wine garden.

Thursday, July 7th is Family Night, open to all ages from 5 – 11:30 pm and features the Anything Goes Band. Anything Goes plays a variety of classic rock tunes from the 50’s through the 90’s from such artists such The Beatles, The Doors, CCR, Elton John, Santana Neil Young and Bob Seger.

Friday, July 8th features Dirt Farm Cowboys from 6 pm to 9 pm, a four piece, mega-talented country band that can rival any group in the Northwest. Dirt Farm Cowboys is a local Sandy band that loves to party and have a good time.

Saturday, July 9th Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will bring a new twist by hosting an open microphone from 3 – 5 pm. If you, or someone you know has great musical talent, encourage them to come and perform! The Lock, Stock & Barrel Band will be up on stage from 6pm to 9pm. Lock, Stock & Barrel is a country-rock good time band that will sing a variety of their own music as well as popular country covers.

Also featured Friday and Saturday night from 9 pm to 12:30 am is Crush. Crush is returning after proving to be a clear favorite from last year’s performance at Sandy Music, Fair and Feast. Crush is a four piece classic rock band that features music from the 80’s and 90’s. Crush’s sets include cover songs from Metallica, Van Halen, AC/DC, Journey, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard and much more!

Friday, May 6 – Participating Businesses and Offerings

The Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce will run the program (purchasing all of the bracelets, necklaces and charms). We will promote the program, by advertising: ads in The Post, Banners, on our website, the city’s web site, blogging, Twitter and Facebook – any way we can.

Each participating business will simply purchase the charm they would like to sell (we will sell them to you “at cost”). You can choose the type of charm you would like if you let Karey know by April 15th… or you can come in to the Chamber and we will have a variety of charms that you can choose from.

People can collect these tiny charms one at a time. They will purchase their starter bracelet at the Sandy Visitor Center for only $5.00. Created from polished pewter this bracelet measures about 7 ½ inches long with a toggle and lobster claw clasp. A special charm commemorating the centennial will be hosted by the chamber to begin their collection. While at the Chamber they will also be given a “map” of all of the merchants and other establishments throughout the Sandy Area where they can find more charms.

Each participating business will be selling a unique charm for just $2. This should give you a profit of $1 or more depending on the charm… more importantly, you get FREE ADVERTISING and promotion to get people IN YOUR DOOR. The program will start in May and run through December 2011. If it looks like it is going well we will extend the program into 2012.

The hiring was announced on the Spotsylvania School District’s website Monday evening.

Redinger, who was a finalist for a vacant superintendent position in Ann Arbor, Mich., before she accepted the Spotsylvania position, said her new post is an opportunity to take a larger role in advocating for children and that the move will fulfill some of her family’s goals as well.

“Spotsylvania is similar to this school district,” Redinger said. “They are very passionate about education and the community. It will be hard to leave such a great team and district. I am going to miss the people the most.”

Perhaps Redinger’s biggest achievement at Oregon Trail Schools is her leadership in passing a $114.9 million bond to construct the new Sandy High School. During her tenure, Redinger said the district was able to improve test scores at the high school and middle school levels.

“It’s a good time for me to pursue other school opportunities,” Redinger said. “Oregon Trail School District is in a good position to handle a leadership change. The administration and the entire school district is in good standing and that should make it easier to attract a talented individual to fill the position.”

Oregon Trail Communications Director Julia Monteith said a transition plan will be formulated over the next two weeks. For Redinger, budgetary shortfalls will be the biggest challenge faced by the next superintendent.

“I think for every school district across the country, funding is the biggest challenge,” Redinger said. “Everyone is working well together including the principals, district office, administration, the school board, staff, parents, and the entire community. Everybody is working well together.”

When Redinger was hired by the school district, Monteith said the district was looking for a superintendent that had strong communication skills.

“I have a feeling we will be looking for someone with a similar skill set,” Monteith said.
