Sandy Oktoberfest 2011
Thursday, August 25th, 2011
The SANDY OKTOBERFEST began when a group of people in Sandy, Oregon got together to discuss a fund-raising event that had a potential for growth that could bring more exposure to the Sandy Mountain Community. An event that would eventually make Sandy more than a small town that you drive through on the way to Mt. Hood or Eastern Oregon.
Aware that the Sandy Mountain Days Festival, held in July each year, draws over 50,000 people to the Sandy Community, the committee felt that an Oktoberfest held in September would not be in competition and could eventually draw as many, or more people.
Contacting the Jerry Lauzon, President of the world-famous Mt. Angel Oktoberfest held in Mt. Angel, Oregon, a community about the same size as Sandy, the committee was on their way. Mr. Lauzon was very supportive and planning began for the first SANDY OKTOBERFEST in 1997. To not compete with the Mt. Angel Oktoberfest, which is held the third weekend in September, the SANDY OKTOBERFEST Committee chose to hold our event the weekend before.
Held on the paved multi-area grounds of St. Michael’s Church, today, the SANDY OKTOBERFEST includes the following venues:
- A 10,000+ square foot indoor/outdoor Biergarten featuring an array of top American and German bands, dancers and entertainers and a sauerkraut and sausage booth, beer and wine.
- A Kindergarten for children of all ages, featuring all types of games and entertainment.
- A Cruisin’ Car Show held on Saturday featuring all types of vehicles including: antiques, collectors, special interest vehicles, hot-rods and German models.
- Food booths sponsored by both non-profit and commercial organizations in Sandy as well as the Portland Metro Area, featuring German, American, Asian, Mexican, and even Middle Eastern cuisine.
- Over 50 craft booths featuring artisans from the Northwest area.
- The Future Farmers of America is sponsoring the THIRD ANNUAL OKTOBERFEST FAIR. Enter to win in 25 categories, from biggest tomato to the best pie. Entries will be displayed and winners announced throughout the weekend.
The SANDY OKTOBERFEST, unlike many others, is truly a family event where families, seniors and singles can find fun and entertainment. If you are looking for a weekend of fun, food and entertainment, you owe it to yourself to attend the SANDY OKTOBEREST!
