Oregon ranks 40th among states when it comes to growth in women-owned businesses, according to a recent report by American Express OPEN. U.S. Census figures show that Oregon had a 30.9% growth in women-owned firms between 1997 and 2011. The state had a 38.5% growth in revenue of women-owned firms, which ranked it 43rd. In the U.S. overall, women-owned firms increased 50% in number over those 14 years, grew sales by 53.4% and gained 8.1% in employment. Employment at Oregon’s women-owned firms grew only 6.7%. Still, these businesses have been growing at a faster rate than male-owned businesses.
